KAOS Talk in collaboration with VROOM

On 8 October at 19:30, the KAOS Talk i.c.w. VROOM will take place during which Lore Smolders will talk to Dr Erik Thys.

Lore Smolders (°1987, lives in Brussels) is a visual artist working mainly with drawings and language. She adapts strategies used in therapy, raising questions about vulnerability, legibility, shareability, the need to understand and be understood.

Gommages

At VROOM from 25 October, Lore Smolders shows a series of new drawings and video fragments in a scenography based on the drawings doctors and therapists use to explain an internal problem.

From an interest in healing strategies, she applies her own systems based on foot reflexology, among others, and works around topics such as digestion, miscommunication and taboo. ‘The solution is not always where the problem is,’ she says. Can we think of emotions as something structural rather than merely individual feelings?

Gommages is erasing something while allowing something to emerge. Who decides when something has failed, and how can one recover from this? When dead skin is loosened, a new drawing can emerge.
