KAOS Talk icw Museum Dr. Guislain @ Kunsthal Gent
KAOS organises artist residencies in psychiatry, exhibitions, concerts, etc. Together with Museum Dr. Guislain, it has organised the KAOS Talks for several years. These are discussion evenings where artist-residents engage in conversation with each other. In 2025, these will take place at alternating locations. The first will take place at Kunsthal and will bring together Stephan Blumenschein and Jitse Huysmans.
Stephan Blumenschein is a visual artist based in Amsterdam. His work explores the history, ideologies and fantasies surrounding institutional spaces. He does this by thinking about the relationships between spaces inside and outside buildings. Where and how is (in)visibility and participation produced and granted to whom? Who and what is seen, heard, considered valuable and inspiring?
Jitse Huysmans is a theatre maker, performer and actress. She is co-founder of Collectief Elan(d), a performers' collective that creates playful performances in which the audience takes the lead role. Encounter is the common thread in their work, where they consciously break the passive role of the audience and experiment with alternative audience arrangements. Jitse combines her experience as a drama therapist and theatre maker in her work for various organisations. Her drama therapy studies influence her artistic vision, which focuses on the healing power of art. In times of polarisation and loneliness, she seeks how people can connect with each other. During her residency at KAOS in conjunction with workspacebrussels, she starts from the theme of regret and sharing stories.
