Béatrice Delcorde - KAOS/Yellow Art

From 2024, Yellow Art and KAOS will jointly organise artist residencies at art house Yellow Art in Geel. Two artists were chosen for this first collaboration after an open call. Béatrice Delcorde will work at Yellow Art from September to December 2024.

In the 1970s, documentary filmmaker André Van In and his film crew came to Geel to spend 16 months filming the town where some 1,200 ‘mentally vulnerable people’ shared daily life with foster families. This tradition of ‘family nursing’ has existed since the Middle Ages and is maintained to this day. In 2024, his niece and also filmmaker, Béatrice Delcorde, is staying in Geel. She follows in Van In's footsteps and sets out to find out what remains of the welcoming community of the time 50 years later. Who were the people who came into the picture? Where did they go? Where have the meeting places gone? What remains? And what has changed? During her stay, Béatrice wants to show the residents of Geel the documented portrait of their town and initiate collaborative research with them in order to relive this story in our own time.
